Sir Alf Ramsey Decorative Dahlia

Sir Alf Ramsey is a Giant Decorative Dahlia.  Its truly giant flower heads have lavender pink petals that shade to a creamy white close to the base. Decorative Dahlias grow quickly and grow fairly tall, always with vibrant deep green foliage. Decorative dahlias, like others, bloom from summer to frost. The bulbs are actually called dahlia tubers and look a lot like a bunch of large green beans or carrots.Dahlias are enjoying a huge renaissance in popularity as gardeners realise their value in providing a riot of colour from mid-summer to the first frosts. Just as many perennials are beginning to flag in the heat of summer, dahlias are coming into their own, revelling in the warmth to produce wave after wave of their exuberant blooms. These double-flowered, decorative types are highly ornamental. Giant blooms of lavender pink with white base.
True giant blooms of lavender pink with white base. Produces show stopping blooms when grown and shown at its best and can achieve a daimetre of almost 35-40cms!! This variety is later to flower than most so we would advise stopping mid June for mid September shows. 1.1m. For the best size flowers remove the growing point when 4-5 pairs of leaves have developed and thin resulting side shoots down to allow only 3-4 shoots to develop (2 if for exhibition).
Decorative dahlias are favorites of exhibitors and gardeners alike and are popular with flower arrangers.  They have fully double flower heads, showing no central disc, that range in size from miniature to giant with ray-florets that are broad and flat, or involutes for less than three-quarters of their length, terminating in blunt pointed ends.  The plants have a corresponding range of heights and spreads.
