Shirwell Greta is Lovely bright yellow with good classic true decorative form. Runner up to best G/L Dec at National NDS Show 2013. Short stocky habit growing up to 1.2m. The foliage is naturally a pale green with some growers seeing benefits from feeding with a dose of Epsom salts! Will do well as a Giant or Large. Lovely bright yellow with exquisite form. For the best size flowers remove the growing point when 4-5 pairs of leaves have developed and thin resulting side shoots down to allow only 3-5 shoots to develop (2 if exhibiting as a Giant, 4 -5 if exhibiting as a Large). Once the terminal bud has developed and is about the size of a 10p piece 4-5 pairs of the side buds can be removed to further maximize flower size. If you are growing solely for garden display then all flowers can be allowed to develop but resulting flowers will be smaller. Raised by Tony Kingdom of Barnstable, Devon.
Decorative dahlias are favorites of exhibitors and gardeners alike and are popular with flower arrangers. They have fully double flower heads, showing no central disc, that range in size from miniature to giant with ray-florets that are broad and flat, or involute for less than three-quarters of their length, terminating in blunt pointed ends. The plants have a corresponding range of heights and spreads.
